Honolulu City Council has passed resolution 21-62 setting the Real Property Tax rates for FY 2021-2022.
On April 22, the Honolulu Department of Planning and Permitting announced that it would suspend the start of the short-term rental registration program (STR program includes Bed & Breakfast and Transit Vacation Rentals). DPP cites the program’s suspension is due to concerns over Ordinance 19-18 raised at a recent DPP public hearing.
HBR's City Affairs Committee (CAC) has formed our shoreline erosion and sea level rise task group consisting of several REALTORS® and we are excited to get to work. We are grateful for the outpouring of interest we received for this important issue and for participating in this task group.
HBR supported resolution 20-311 that the Honolulu City Council passed, which supported allowing the second installment of real property tax payments for the Fiscal Year 2020-2021 due on February 22, 2021, to be paid in four (4) monthly installments.

In late December 2020, Mayor Kirk Caldwell signed Bill 2 (2020) – now ordinance 20-41, approved by the then Honolulu City Council. This Bill, developed in part from the Oahu Resilience Strategy, is focused on cutting carbon emissions and hopefully streamlining the permitting process.
